Car Share

Car Share

Car share provides short-term rentals of vehicles, typically by the hour or by the day. Zipcar is the University of Oregon's on-campus car share partner. If you commute to campus without your own car, Zipcar provides a flexible option for errands or off-campus meetings during the day. If you're living on campus car-free, Zipcar provides access to a vehicle for grocery shopping or longer trips to explore Oregon. Vehicles are located in various areas around campus.

UO students, faculty, and staff have access to a reduced cost membership when they sign up using their UO email and can access all Zipcar locations in Eugene, not just those on campus. Gas, insurance, and the first 180 miles are included in the rental fee. Find more information and sign up for a membership on the Zipcar website.

Motor Pool

University of Oregon employees have access to the OSU motor pool for University business. The motor pool has a variety of vehicles for rent on a daily and monthly basis. Visit the motor pool website for more information.

Carpool

Under the Zonal Parking system, it is no longer necessary to sign up for a special carpool permit. Any commuter zone permit may be shared between multiple individuals as long as only one vehicle is parked on campus each day. To add another vehicle to your permit:

  1. Login to the parking portal
  2. Select the permits tab to view all active permits
  3. Select "view" next to the permit you wish to add the vehicle to
  4. Select "Add a new vehicle"

Note: In the 13th Ave Garage and the Millrace Garage, entry is by License Plate Recognition or by the FlashParking app. Only one phone number can be linked to the FlashParking app, so additional drivers using your permit may not be able to utilize garage parking.

Get There Ride Matching

If you want some help finding a carpool, sign up for Get There, the State of Oregon’s official ride matching software. Enter your commute schedule, and you will be automatically matched with other riders who are traveling to similar destinations at similar times. If you sign up with your University of Oregon email address (@uoregon.edu), your account will be assigned to the UO network and you can limit searches to only UO members if you like. Employees who sign up a UO email will also be enrolled in our Emergency Ride Home program.

Vanpool

A vanpool is a group of 5-15 commuters who ride to work together. Vanpools generally follow a set schedule and route that has been set by the riders themselves. Fares are based on the size of the van and the daily round-trip mileage. Vanpools work best for those who live at least 20 miles away from their workplace and have a consistent work schedule. To find out if there is a vanpool near you - or to form your own - visit Valley VanPool’s website.

Ride Hail

The City of Eugene has approved two ride-hailing companies, Uber and Lyft, to operate in Eugene. To keep traffic through campus as safe and smooth as possible for vehicles, bikes and pedestrians, Transportation Services has designated campus spots for ride-hail pickups. Drivers can only accept fares for the designated locations.
